Eyeliner Tattooing

A well-formed lash line can take years off your face

Eyeliner tattooing is a powerful way to look younger and more energetic. It works to enhance the natural shape of your eyes by creating permanent upper and/or lower eyeliner. The eyeliner helps create definition, giving your lashes a fuller appearance.

The treatment isn’t just for individuals who wear eyeliner daily. It’s also perfect for people with thinning lash lines.

ADVANTAGES

  • Making your eyes seem more expressive

  • Highlighting the lash line

  • Removes the challenge of applying eyeliner (perfect if you have shaky hands or poor eyesight)

  • Saves you time, allowing you to forego applying eyeliner yourself

Procedures & Pricing

We work with you to choose a weight and style that suits your eyes. This may be something dramatic and makeup-like or a more subtle and natural approach. Either way, permanent makeup is a powerful way to enhance your eyes, without the need for daily work.

Procedures:

  • Top Liner: $400

  • Bottom Liner: $300

  • Designer Liner (flick): $450

  • Top & Bottom Liner (2x appointments): $600

Other Services:

  • 4-6 Week Touchup: $100

  • Designer Liner Touchup: $120

  • 10-18 Month Colour Boost: $250

  • 2+ Year Colour Boost: $300

  • 3+ Year Colour Boost: $350

The weight and style of your eyeliner is customized to meet individual needs and requests. Popular styles include:

  • Top/Bottom Eyeliner: This is the most conservative of the eyeliner techniques. The colour is only present in your lash line and doesn’t go out onto the eyelid. This technique is the perfect way to begin if you want your eyelashes to look fuller, rather than lined.

  • Designer Eyeliner: These procedures create a similar appearance to eyeliner that you might apply as part of your daily makeup routine. The eyeliner can be applied to the top and/or bottom of your eyes.

Please Note:

  • A $100 deposit is required for all initial treatments. Deposits must be made within 48 hours to confirm your appointment (appointments are only penciled in until the deposit has been made).

 Pre-Procedure Instructions

To ensure the best results, please follow these instructions before treatment

  • Avoid wearing contact lenses on the day of your treatment.

  • Avoid any caffeine on the day of your treatment.

  • Do not wear eye makeup to your procedure.

  • Avoid alcohol for 48 hours beforehand.

  • Do not perm, curl or dye your eyelashes in the 2 days prior to your appointment.

  • Avoid the use of aspirin, aspirin-containing medication, ibuprofen and any medications than thin the blood for at least 7 days before the procedure. Talk to your doctor first if any of these are prescription medications (you may need a signed waiver before we can go ahead with your procedure).

  • Do not wear waterproof mascara for 7 days prior to your appointment.

  • Discontinue any eyelash growth serums (e.g. Latisse) for 2 months before the procedure.

  • If you have had (or are planning to have) any eye surgery, consult your physician about when you can have a permanent eyeliner procedure.

  • Bring sunglasses that you can wear home, as your eyes may be sensitive to the light.

  • YOU MUST NOT HAVE EYELASH EXTENSIONS ON DURING THE PROCEDURE. Please have these removed. They can be reapplied no sooner than 8 days after your appointment.

Plan the day of your treatment. Many people prefer to have someone drive them home. It is also best to avoid strenuous activities after the procedure. You may wish to avoid social activities on the day, as the skin can slightly redden or swell.

 Post-Procedure Instructions for Eyeliner

To ensure the best results, please follow these instructions after treatment

Aftercare Instructions

  • On the day of the procedure:

    • Wash the treated area every hour with a cool and wet cloth.

    • Apply vaseline ointment to the treated area using a cotton bud.

    • Use the other side of the cotton bud to wipe off any excess ointment.

    • The vaseline layer does not need to be thick. You want a light coating so that the skin is still able to breathe.

  • You can gently wash your eye area using tepid water. Make sure your hands are washed and avoid all washcloths, soap and cleaners.

  • Use a fresh cotton bud to apply a small coat of vaseline to the area twice a day for 5 to 7 days. Make sure that the area does not dry out.

  • Keep any contact lenses out during the procedure and for 24 hours afterwards. If possible, use a new pair of contact lenses after this point to reduce infection risk.

Avoid the following

  • Peeling, scratching or itching the treated area. Doing so may lead to scarring or uneven colour.

  • Touching the healing area, as you risk spreading germs around the area.

  • Any strenuous activity (particularly working out) in the 2 days after your procedure.

  • The use of products like Retin-A to speed up healing. Such products can fade permanent makeup.

  • Exposing the healing skin to hot tubs, tanning beds, chlorinated pools and very hot water for 2 weeks after the procedure.

  • All skin creams, lotions and ointments for at least 3 days (except those you have been instructed to use for aftercare)

Do not apply makeup for 3 days following the procedure. After these 3 days use new makeup only on and around the treated area, for the next 10 days. Wait at least 2 weeks before using an eyelash curler.

Important long-term care approaches

  • Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes when going outside in bright sunlight.

  • If you require a medical procedure like an MRI in your future, make sure to inform your physician of your cosmetic tattoo. The same is true if you plan on having a chemical exfoliation or something similar.

What you can expect

Your eyeliner may look darker than desired immediately after your procedure. This is to be expected. The pigment naturally softens and fades over time as your skin heals. You will typically lose between 20% and 40% of your colour during the first few weeks.

You may experience some pigment flaking off or could find that your colour decreases too much. These are not uncommon issues and will be resolved during your touch up appointment. Outcomes like this are a key reason that a touch up procedure is required, especially as each person’s skin responds differently.

While the pigment molecules from cosmetic tattoos remain in the skin, the colour fades over time. For eyeliner, you can generally expect somewhere from 18 months to 4 years worth of life from your tattoo. The rate of colour loss is influenced by many things, including the colour chosen, any medications and your skin.

A colour boost is recommended every few years to top up your colour and keep your tattoo looking amazing.

Frequently Asked Questions for Cosmetic Eyeliner

What if I’ve had Previous Cosmetic Tattooing Before?

Previous cosmetic tattooing from another artist can be a challenge to go over due to factors such as scarring, shape and colour. We require pictures to be sent to info@nelsonbrowandbeauty.com before booking in the procedure or alternatively, you can make a quick free consultation to discuss your options.

Is the touch up session necessary?

Yes. All cosmetic procedures require a touch up appointment 4 to 6 weeks after the initial appointment. This is essential for ensuring the best possible outcome, as each person’s skin responds differently to the tattooing.

The touch up cannot occur earlier than 4 weeks. The 4 week timeframe gives your skin time to heal and allows us to see what work still needs to be done.

How long does it last?

Your tattoo will naturally fade over time. The rate of fading will be influenced by a number of aspects, like exposure to the sun, the products that you use, the colour of your tattoo and any medical conditions. Following the aftercare instructions closely helps reduce the amount of fading.

As a general guideline, eyeliner tattoos can last between 18 months to 4 years.

How long does it take to heal?

You will not experience your final eyeliner appearance right after your procedure. The skin needs time to heal and you will need your touch up appointment as well.

You will also experience some initial swelling, which may last up to 48 hours. The colour will appear darker for a week or so and will fade during the healing process.

What impacts colour loss?

Following the post-procedure instructions is the most important way to reduce colour loss. Nevertheless, you will experience colour loss across the life of your tattoo due to the pigments used.

Key factors that can influence colour loss include: sun exposure, chlorine, some medications, differences between individuals, strong skincare ingredients (like Retinol A) and the chosen pigment (lighter colours tend to fade faster).

Does it hurt?

Anaesthetics are used to make the tattoo experience as comfortable as possible. Because the ink does not go deep into the skin, there is typically very little pain. Some individuals feel no discomfort at all, while others may find the process slightly strange.
